The following are the listed job positions available at the US embassy in Nigeria:

1. Chauffeur/Scooter Driver – Lagos

Qualification and Competencies

Education

Completion of Secondary School education is required.

Experience

Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a professional chauffeur and scooter is required.

Competencies

  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Writing/Reading in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Level III (Good working knowledge) of any local language is required.
  • Good geographical knowledge of Lagos, other Nigeria cities and neighboring countries and ability to drive carefully and cautiously in heavy and chaotic traffic situations on poorly maintained roads is required.
  • Good knowledge of automotive operations, and safety; and the ability to recognize a dangerous situation and take appropriate action is required.
  • Ability to drive a variety of vehicles (bus, sedans, pick-ups, scooters and light trucks) using standard or automatic transmission as well as the ability to drive on short and long trips is required.
  • Must have valid Nigeria Class D driver’s license and the ability to communicate clearly on the phone or by radio when necessary.

    2. Chauffeur, Lagos

    Qualification and Competencies

    Education

    Completion of Secondary School education is required.

    Experience

    Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a professional chauffeur is required.

    Competencies

  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Writing/Reading in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Level III (Good working knowledge) of any local language is required.

    3. Senior Program Development Specialist (USAID), Abuja

    Qualification and Competencies

    Education

    A university degree in a field relevant to development assistance, including but not limited to finance, economics, business administration, social sciences, or international affairs is required. An advanced degree in any of these fields is highly desirable.

    Experience

  • A minimum of five to seven years of progressively responsible work experience in development program management, strategic planning and coordination, budgeting, analysis, and, planning or execution is required.
  • Experiences in project/activity design, program
    planning, program/project budgeting and evaluation or closely related work is required.

  • At least two years of this experience should be in an English-language environment with a US government agency or other international organization, or non-governmental organization.
  • Prior experience in collaborating with high-level counterparts or their representatives (government and/or private sector) is required.
  • A basic understanding of the procedures, policies and goals of international development programs is required.

    Competencies

    The position requires strong analytical, communication (oral and written), interpersonal and teamwork skills. The ability to serve as an effective liaison, both within and outside of the USG, is important. Must have the ability to appropriately apply USAID and other USG guidelines and policies in the areas of strategic planning, activity/project/program design, evaluation, budget planning, reporting, and management.

    Language Proficiency: Level IV (full professional fluency) in English oral and writing ability is required. A good working knowledge of one or more Nigerian languages is helpful.

    4. Chauffeur, Abuja

    Qualification and Competencies

    Education

    Completion of Secondary School education is required

    Experience

    Minimum of two (2) years’ work experience as a professional driver is required.

    Competencies

  • Level III (Good working knowledge) Speaking/Writing/Reading in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Knowledge of key locations and traffic patterns in and around Abuja; and knowledge of preventative maintenance, with the ability to recognize when vehicle is not working properly is required.
  • Ability to drive carefully and cautiously in heavy, chaotic traffic under poorly maintained roads, as well as the ability to recognize a potentially dangerous situation and take appropriate defensive action is required.

    5. Commercial Specialist (Training Level), Lagos

    Qualification and Competencies

    Education

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Management, Economics, Marketing, Finance, International Trade or related field is required.

    Experience

    Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in business, government or NGOs in the fields of marketing, trade promotion, economics, international trade or similar field is required.

    Competencies

  • Level IV (fluency) Speaking/Writing/Reading in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Good knowledge of the domestic economy and trade practices, with a good understanding of foreign trade policy and issues affecting the domestic economy’s bilateral trade relations with the United States is required.
  • Understanding of USG trade policies and export promotion programs, with knowledge of international trade (terms and procedures), is required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain an extensive range of appropriate mid-and senior level contacts in the host government and private sector; to plan, organize and execute complex commercial research projects and to prepare precise and accurate factual and analytic reports; and to render advice with detachment and objectivity, employing sound professional judgment is required.

    6. Commercial Specialist (Full Performance) , Lagos

    Qualification and Competencies

    Education

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Business Management, Economics, Marketing, Finance, International Trade or related field is required.

    Experience

    Minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in business, government or NGOs in the fields of marketing, trade promotion, economics, international trade or similar field is required.

    Qualification and Competencies

    Education

    University degree or Higher National Diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Economics is required.

    Experience

    Minimum of three (3) years financial experience is required.

    Competencies

  • Level IV (fluent) Speaking/Writing/Reading in English is required. Language proficiency will be tested.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of appropriation law, regulations governing voucher examination and payments is required.
  • Proficiency in computer skills and financial software, as well as the ability to articulate complex issues is required.
